John Adams to Edward Bridgen

22 Nov. 1785

Sir Grosvenor Square Nov. 22. 1785.

As I have no Instructions concerning Such Notes, I dont like to give Advice about them in general: but in this Case I can foresee no Inconvenience in Answering ‘that I suppose, an Official Copy made here under the Attestation of a Notary and the signature of the American Minister would be accepted in Place of the originals, upon Proof being made of their inevitable Loss. I know of no other mode, by which the Interest can be obtained, but by sending the Notes.
