William Stephens Smith to John Adams

6 Mar. 1797

Dear Sr. Boston. 6th March. 1797.

Yesterday a Schr. arriv’d at Marblehead from Rotterdam, which place she left the 6th Jany. the Captain says that just as he was coming away. a Mr. Skinner belonging to this Town, inform’d him, that advice had just been recd from Paris, that Lord Malmsbury was directed to leave Paris in 48 hours. whether by Orders from his own Court or not is not mention’d. as this is the latest date we have from Europe & every Report, at this critical period, is interesting to our Country. I have taken the liberty to trouble you with it.—
