|Dear Sr.||Boston. 27th.March. 1797.|
At the request of Govr. Gill. I have shipt you by the Schr. Jay Cap. Morton, a box containing one of his Princetown Cheeses. weighing one hundred & ten pounds. the Sch. sail’d yesterday & I hope will arrive safe.—the inclos’d Letters from Cap. Samuel Brooks dated at Malaga was recd. a few days since, as it gives I presume a just character of most of the American Agents in Spain, I have taken the liberty to inclose you a Copy. that you may be inform’d what character’s represent us in that Kingdom. from the information I have recd. I have no doubt that my Brig & Cargo with several others in a similar situation, wou’d long before this been restor’d, provided Mr Humphreys or some other good person, was at Madrid, to remonstrate to the Government on permitting such an outrage on Neutral Property, within the limets of their own Ports. Our European news is not later, than what our last papers contain’d.—all prospect of peace appears to have subsided at present. the paper inclos’d contains some information from Malaga not before publish’d—
I am Sr. with great Respect / Yr Most. H Sert.
