|My dear Sir||Philadelphia 23 July 1797|
I have the pleasure to inform you that your request is complied with. I did not fail on my arrival here, to communicate to the President a conversation which your Mamma had with me, just before I left Home; there has been no opening untill the Removal of Mr Jarvis. The publick will be no loosers I presume by the exchange. His Successors honour, integrity, and probity are there Sure pledge and security. Without these qualities the President would not knowingly appoint to office any Man, however nearly connected, or otherways bound to him.
Present my kind regards to your Father and Mother, and my Love to the young Ladies—I hope Soon to See my dear Friends in Boston and Quincy
we commence our Journey tomorrow I do not know how long we shall be on our journey as the weather is very Hot. / I am Sir / your Friend &c
