John Quincy Adams to John Adams

16 Oct. 1797

My dear Sir London 16 October 1797

Mr P. Abbot the bearer of this letter is a gentleman of respectable character & connections, with whom I have recently had the pleasure of forming an acquaintance. He is a native of Constantinople, and speaks as I understand both the Turkish & Greek languages. He purposes now visiting the United States, for commercial purposes and will be able to furnish interesting information relative to commercial affairs within the Ottoman dominions. I have readily complied with his desire in giving him an introduction to you, & remain your dutiful Son
