From James Madison to Albert Gallatin, 19 February 1806

Sir. Dept. of State, Feby. 19. 1806.

I request you to be pleased to issue a warrant on the appropriations for Barbary intercourse for twenty one thousand seven hundred & ten dollars & fifty three cents in favor of Thomas Dunn, the holder of the enclosed bills of exchange, the one for Sixteen thousand, seven hundred & seventy six dollars and thirty one cents; and the other for four thousand, nine hundred & thirty four dollars and twenty two cents; both dated the fourth of November last, in favor of Degen, Purviance & Co., and drawn upon me by Tobias Lear Esqr. Consul General at Algiers, who is to be charged for the same and held accountable. I am &c.
