Unique authors and recipients are calculated based on the name forms as recorded in the digital edition metadata, and will not correspond 100% to counts of actual people (some people are referred to by different name forms, and vice versa). Notes are editorial footnotes and endnotes except in the case of the Dolley Madison Digital Edition, where the count is of publication-wide notes on names, places, and titles. Pages count is based on page breaks recorded in digital files and will differ slightly from page count of physical volumes. Index references is the total of unique index links corresponding to page references in the letterpress indexes, for publications that have online indexes.
