| My Dear Sir; | 209 W. 46th St. N. York, May 19th 1873. |

I have just received your letter of 17th inst.
I advised you that I had not received the formal notification of my election in order that you might not for a moment suppose that in the face of the attack on Mr Cornell I could think of declining the position. If it should not be best that I occupy it, it would be better I assume that I accepted it now and resigned after his vindication.
Hoping to see you as promised this week,
Fred. Law Olmsted
